From November 14 to 16, Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield was at MAPIC in sunny Cannes (South of France). MAPIC is one of the biggest retail real estate events, where retailers, developers, cities and investors from all around the world connect, discuss and work together for the future of the industry.

Many URW teams from across the globe travelled to Cannes this year, welcoming visitors in our 800 sqm pavilion by the beach. The ideal place to work and network, the URW stand also showcased our latest openings and development projects.



As the premier global developer and operator of flagship shopping destinations, Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield shared insights and contributed to the discussion about the state of the retail industry and what the future holds for shopping destinations. Six of our own were invited to speak on topics such as O2O, open innovation, customer experience and transit retail.

Our CEO Christophe Cuvillier shared his views on the retail market and what lays ahead in the opening keynote: “Transforming Reality: Physical in the Age of Digital.”

On Wednesday, Julie Villet – CSR and URW Lab Director, discussed innovation and digitalisation in a panel entitled “Retail Transformation: the New Deal with O2O.” In the afternoon, Jean Collet – Senior URW Link Manager, presented our open innovation ecosystem and its missions in the panel “New Operating Models to Reinforce Shopping Centre Efficiency.” Laetitia Ferracci – Director of Operations Spain, represented URW in a panel dedicated to the Iberian peninsula, pointing out the importance of investing in the customer experience to create unique and vibrant destinations. On Thursday, our Managing Director for the Nordics – Lars-Åke Tollemark, pointed out the quality of our assets and our operational excellence, which keep us at the forefront of the challenging retail industry. As for our last speaker, Steven Dumas – Senior Vice President Design, he discussed the evolution of travel retail and the transformation of transit zones into a fully integrated part of the customer journey.

Thursday night was the MAPIC Awards Ceremony.

On this occasion, our CEO Christophe Cuvillier was named “Personality of the Year”. The MAPIC Awards jury paid tribute to his active role changing the face of the industry and his forward-looking vision of retail.

Our L.A flagship shopping destination Westfield Century City was elected Best Redeveloped Shopping Centre. One of our major recent redevelopments, the destination now features an open-air garden crafted in collaboration with lifestyle designers, an exceptional food offering, and an atrium where you can organise concerts and events, all while leveraging the best technology to enhance our visitors’ experience.
