We were selected by the City of Hamburg, the second largest city in Germany and one of the most dynamic areas in Europe, to develop Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier. This mixed-use urban district will feature flexible offices with 360° view over HafenCity and the harbour, modern apartments with direct access to the waterfront, three hotels, and a 200-store shopping centre offering the best local and international brands together with a wide range of services and digital innovations, for an enhanced customer journey.
The largest city-centre project in Europe, Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier is set to become a new urban community hotspot. Encompassing a unique culture, leisure, entertainment and dining offer, it will feature a 10-screen flagship cinema, beauty and wellness centres, international and local restaurants, bars and cafés, and the latest trends in entertainment technology.
With an ensemble of a cruise terminal, two 60-metre towers in the middle (UNStudio) and a sculptural 70-metre high office building at Magdeburger Hafen, the already iconic district will redefine the cityscape along the river Elbe. Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield co-operated with renowned local and international architects, such as Christian de Portzamparc, Carsten Roth Architekt and UNStudio, as well as Saguez&Partners for the interior design.
In line with our CSR strategy Better Places 2030, Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier will foster new modes of sustainable mobility, including e-vehicle platforms, smart shuttles and the implementation of intelligent logistics and traffic control systems. All buildings are certified according to the international BREEAM Excellent Standard, and the office buildings according to the DGNB Gold Standard. Business activities will be fully integrated within local communities, engaging all teams and stakeholders.
