Bringing cutting edge VR entertainment to our destinations

On July 25, Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield and The VOID announced the formation of a partnership to bring more than 25 permanent, state-of-the-art immersive virtual reality destinations to our shopping centres in the United States and in Europe.

The VOID, a Utah-based venture with experiential content deals spanning entertainment studios, including Disney and Sony, is recognised as the most immersive of virtual reality experiences and represents the future of entertainment. Titles include Star WarsTM: Secrets of the Empire, the award-winning experience by ILMxLAB and Lucasfilm; Ralph Breaks VR, by ILMxLAB created in collaboration with Walt Disney Animation Studios; Ghostbusters: Dimension; and original content Nicodemus: Demon of Evanishment, with several new experiences still to be released.

This partnership will allow The VOID to scale its presence globally, taking advantage of Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield’s unique network of flagship destinations. Together with The VOID, we will offer our visitors a cutting-edge, first-to-market entertainment across our locations, in line with our strategy to differentiate through exceptional and memorable experiences.

In November, we unveiled the ten first state-of-the-art virtual reality destinations that will be brought to Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield European flagship centres over a total GLA of more than 7,500 sqm, set to open in 2020 and 2021: 

  • - Westfield Carré Sénart, France
  • - Westfield Les 4 Temps, France
  • - La Part Dieu, France
  • - Donauzentrum, Austria
  • - CentrO, Germany
  • - Fisketorvet, Denmark
  • - Westfield Mall of Scandinavia, Sweden
  • - Westfield Mall of the Netherlands, The Netherlands
  • - Westfield London, United Kingdom
  • - Westfield Stratford City, United Kingdom

 

In addition to these long-term contracts, The VOID will open a pop-up destination at Westfield Les 4 Temps in 2020. 
Further European openings will follow, for which discussions are ongoing.

After announcing a large scale partnership between URW and The VOID this summer, two pop-ups with Star WarsTM: Secrets of the Empire and Ralph Breaks VR opened at Westfield World Trade Center in New York city and Westfield San Francisco Centre. Additional details on The VOID permanent locations throughout the U.S. will be made in the lead up to each opening.
