An Artistic Celebration of Pride

#Group News

At Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, we participate in shaping and improving the cities in which we are present and have a major influence on how people live, work, shop, connect and are entertained. We intend to make positive contributions to the well-being of our communities. We see ourselves as leaders of change, using our assets and collective strength to raise awareness, mobilise and provide spaces where people feel they belong. This June, on the occasion of LGBT Pride Month, several of our shopping centres across the United States glittered up to celebrate love and diversity.

At Westfield World Trade Center, a symbolic art installation came to life in the Oculus to celebrate WorldPride NYC and the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots.

Entitled “Live 4 Love”, the large, colourful installation was created by two Australian artists to bring the story of the LGBTQIA+ community to life in a dynamic way. Sponsored by Westfield World Trade Center – in partnership with Silverstein, Port Authority, Downtown Alliance and Goldberg Aberline Studio – the inflatable structure stands over 20 feet tall and is covered with powerful design symbols that represent freedom, inclusion, gender diversity, friendship, and adversity. At night, the installation is illuminated with internal LED lights, acting as a large-scale lantern.

“The Oculus at Westfield World Trade Center is a place to connect and experience the art of community where culture and commerce intersect. We are thrilled to be supporting World Pride and marking the 50th anniversary of Stonewall together with our World Trade Center partners and extended Lower Manhattan community.”

Shari C. Hyman, Vice President Westfield World Trade Center

Segments of the installation will be showcased during New York City’s Pride March on June 30.

On the West Coast, Westfield Century City was all about “LOVE” this month. Visitors were invited to check out the centre’s Pride windows along Santa Monica Boulevard and snap a selfie in front of the rainbow wall.

Meanwhile, Westfield San Francisco Centre will kick off San Francisco Pride weekend on Friday, June 28, with the second annual PRIDE! At The Disco celebration.
