Supporting local employment: London job show at Westfield centres

#Group News

Job seekers in the English capital were able to explore thousands of employment and training opportunities at the 2019 London Job Show, hosted at Westfield Stratford City from September 27-28 and Westfield London from October 11-12.

Over 60 employers gathered at each of the free-to-attend events, including John Lewis & Partners, Mercedes-Benz, Allianz, Hilton, Madame Tussauds London, the Coca-Cola London Eye, the Royal Air Force, and the Metropolitan Police, alongside many of the brands that call Westfield Stratford City and Westfield London home. Vacancies ranged from part-time to full-time and entry-level to senior executive roles, along with apprenticeship and graduate positions. Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield itself recruited for available positions at Westfield London, Europe’s largest shopping centre, in White City. The Group’s London flagships support approximately 32,000 jobs in the capital with over 12,000 more on the horizon, including those being created by developments at Westfield Stratford City in east London.

Job hunters also benefitted from expert support in finding their perfect job, work experience, or training opportunity. The London Job Show featured one-to-one Careers Advice Booths offering visitors free, personalised careers advice, and a free professional headshot service to provide candidates with the perfect photo for their CV or LinkedIn profile. Recruitment professionals and keynote speakers delivered seminars to job seekers hoping to gain valuable insight into the recruitment process and tips on how to succeed in their job search.

“The London Job Show is the perfect place to find out more about the exciting opportunities to work for major companies in retail, customer service, hospitality and more. We’re proud to help local residents connect with potential employers at both Westfield Stratford City and Westfield London, where we’re continuing to invest in the local communities with our own jobs and training initiatives.”

In line with our Better Places 2030 CSR strategy, we aim to be a catalyst for growth within the communities in which we operate. Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield accounts for 13% of all jobs within both the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham (LBHF) and the London Borough of Newham, generating £18m-£25Mn annually in local worker expenditure for the benefit of local businesses. One in two Westfield London employees live within the six local west London boroughs, and 24% were previously unemployed, representing a social value of £24Mn-£33Mn. One in five Westfield Stratford City employees lives in the London Borough of Newham.

The Group’s initiatives with local organisations, in partnership with the local authorities, have maximised local job opportunities. Westfield Stratford City has filled thousands of vacancies in partnership with Newham Council through Work Place and Skills Place, while at Westfield London, 3,000 people have secured employment through WorkZone. Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield has also invested more than £10Mn in education and training contributions during its ten years in the UK capital and has created apprenticeship opportunities, particularly in construction.

Earlier this year, Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, a Founding Member of East Bank at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, announced a £10Mn funding package from Westfield Stratford City to help deliver careers coaching, mentoring, learning opportunities, apprenticeships, internships, and support for entrepreneurs and new business start-ups in the arts and culture.
