In the face of the global COVID-19 outbreak, Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield has enacted a series of community and philanthropic actions, dedicating our resources, assets and connections to address the challenges faced by vulnerable populations in the communities in which we operate.

In the United States, our support of nearly 100 NGOs, non-profits, and community organisations in markets such as New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco / San Jose, Washington DC, San Diego, and Seattle is providing immediate assistance to some of the individuals and families most impacted by the crisis. In each of these regions, and everywhere we have centres, our teams are urgently focused on supporting the economically disadvantaged, children, seniors, the unsheltered, and other communities in need of a rapid response.

To raise awareness of the organisations that are doing this important work in our communities, our employees and partner organisations are using #WestfieldCares on social media; and detailing the ways that these organisations are supporting the COVID response and how our followers can also support them.

Across the country, our shopping centres have also engaged to thank our first responders and medical professionals who are putting themselves in harm’s way each day. We are humbled by their sacrifices and inspired to serve our communities by their actions.

Finally, where possible, we are also leveraging our assets to support response efforts, including hosting COVID-19 testing sites and blood drives, to fulfil urgent needs by local authorities and within the medical community.

Supporting Families and Children

Across the United States, our teams are addressing the needs of vulnerable populations, including supporting families and children in urgent need of food and other daily necessities.

In Los Angeles, our teams are supporting a vitally needed American Red Cross school lunch programme for economically disadvantaged children; helping Brotherhood Crusade purchase needed food and supplies for local low-income and underserved residents who have lost their jobs during the pandemic; supporting the WARD AME Economic Development Corporation to feed seniors impacted by COVID-19 at the non-profit’s residential programme; donating foods such as beans, rice, and bread to the San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission in order to aid underprivileged families and unsheltered populations facing COVID-19 difficulties; as well as distributing children’s and baby essential items for low-income families at Allies for Every Child’s Early Development Center. In New York, we’re purchasing surplus GreenMarket food to donate to City Harvest and Bowery Mission City Harvest, while also supporting the Showing Hearts Foundation to provide daily necessities such as toiletries, baby care items, meals, wellness checks, and more. Nearby, in New Jersey, our team at Westfield Garden State Plaza has fed residents at the Bergen Family Promise shelter, while highlighting great organisations such as the Paramus Community Pantry and the Paramus Community Emergency Response Team that purchase and deliver urgently needed meals to local residents unable to leave their homes during the crisis.

In Maryland, our Westfield Wheaton team donated funds to support a local food bank, Nourish Now, to gather and assemble Hunger Relief Kits; and in Connecticut, our Westfield Meriden and Westfield Trumbull teams are making monetary donations to the CT Food Bank.

In the Seattle region, our Westfield Southcenter team provided a donation to fund snack packs for kids enrolled at the local the Tukwila School District; and in San Diego, we are supporting Neighborhood House Association (NHA) to provide meal distribution service to families in urgent need of assistance during the crisis.

In San Jose, our team at Westfield Valley Fair worked to provide meals to the Downtown Streets Team supporting local homeless populations, while we have also been actively working with the local Second Harvest Food Bank to create a food distribution point at our Westfield Oakridge shopping centre. In the rest of Northern California, our team at Westfield Galleria at Roseville in Sacramento has been making donations to The Gathering Inn, a local homeless shelter providing COVID-19 services; in addition to also sending bags of groceries and essential food items to a non-profit named KidsFirst.

Finally, in Chicago, our focus has been on donating food to community partners including: A Safe Haven Foundation, No Kid Hungry, and the Greater Chicago Food Depository. We have also been partnering with a local caterer, Feast & Imbibe, to serve lunches to area seniors and families in need.
