Deck the Halls!

#Group News
Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Festivus or you just use the holiday season as an excuse to get together with friends and loved ones, there was something for everyone this year at our destinations across Europe and the United States.

At Westfield Mall of Scandinavia and Westfield Täby Centrum in Sweden, following the launch of the “More Extra – Less Ordinary” campaign, visitors were welcomed to a festive lounge with gift wrapping services, Christmas music and the chance to get up close and toasty with Santa. Free skating was also on offer at Westfield Mall of Scandinavia at a giant, purpose built outdoor ice rink*, surrounded by a fairytale forest of yuletide decorations. For those who couldn’t make it in person, the “More Extra – Less Ordinary” campaign was activated digitally with a Christmas advent calendar on the centres’ websites and social media channels, while the Westfield Extra Live shopping programmes gathered shoppers online around hosts and guests stars Keyyo, Theoz, Amie Bramme Sey, Klara Hammarström and David Lindgren.

Over at Westfield Forum des Halles in Paris, we partnered with Netflix for a winter extravaganza that saw the installation of the largest Christmas tree in Paris, along with themed giveaways from this year’s most popular Netflix shows, and the installation of an indoor ice rink* under the Canopy. At Westfield La Part-Dieu, in Lyon, guests are treated with an ice skating unprecedented experience on… the rooftop!

Visitors to Westfield La Maquinista in Barcelona had the chance to enjoy an even bigger ice rink* – the largest sustainable skating park in Catalonia – along with raffles, prizes, live music and a Santa’s grotto. What’s more, a special collaboration with Cirque du Soleil saw the artists and dancers preview their upcoming show Crystal, which arrives in Barcelona in January.

At Westfield Chodov in Prague, there was a programme of live music events from conductor Jeremy Scott Winston and soloists Candace Potts, LaVonte Heard, and William Ramsey. And there was more live music at Westfield Arkadia in Warsaw, Poland, plus ice skating on an environmentally sustainable rink*.

Stateside, Westfield Valley Fair in California celebrated the holiday season with indoor snow storms, live music and light shows, and little hands were kept busy at Santa's Craft Workshop, with all proceeds benefiting non-profit partner Loaves & Fishes. Across the country at Westfield Garden State Plaza in New Jersey, the iconic Big Santa was illuminated once again, accompanied by musical performances from up and coming Broadway performers, food trucks, giveaways and a surprise visit from holiday favourite the Grinch.

But leave it to Westfield London and Westfield Stratford City, in London, to go the extra mile. This year, both venues hosted a packed, two-month calendar of family-friendly events and experiences including store openings, live music, giveaways, lighting ceremonies, choir competitions and craft workshops.

Local kids could not only meet Santa, they could have breakfast with him and then go bowling with his elves. For the first time, Westfield London installed a Winter Village with a 1,000-square-meter outdoor ice rink*. But one more surprise awaited – a festive lie detector to test whether kids really had been naughty or nice before they met Father Christmas. Both Westfield London and Westfield Stratford City offered parents and kids the fun, “fibmas” experience, with expert polygraph examiner Paul Bramley on hand to see who really belonged on the naughty and nice lists.

These are just some of the ways we celebrated the holiday season this year, inviting families and friends to join us at our destinations for fun, laughter, great experiences and new memories.
